I really like this short story that my class had done last term. It talks about how a young boy rescued his dog. He rock climbed up and down in order to save his dog who was on a ledge on the storm.
The authors used words that were very concise and appropriate in conveying the mood of the story. I wish I could write like that! The use of words is especially pertinent in children's books as kids have very short attention span. The words used cannot be too difficult or it might discourage them from reading. Yet, these words must be able to bring across the mood and the feelings of the characters. That's hard.
When I read through these books, I take my hats off to the people who have written it. It's truly a gift.
